So crazy little thing. I was thinking about ‘mindfulness’ today. You know, being in the present. Being aware of the moment etc. and it sort of hit me.
I used to think that life was about seeing the world, about going exotic places and meeting fantastic people. And maybe it is. Maybe it should be.
But then I thought about how none of that really even matters, if we perpetually fail to enjoy each moment. It’s not so much about the places that we go, the people that we see, the things that we do, or the possessions that we hoard. None of that is worth a thing at all, if we are not living in each second, feeling each emotion, our love, our sorrows, our ecstasies and agonies. Each tirade of feelings, of suppressed desires and yearnings, just as they are, neither good nor bad. Just raw emotions, born of a moment in our lives.
For without all those feelings, without just giving ourselves over to the pleas and dictations of our hearts, what else is there? Do we all just become “so many lemmings going into another sea”? “Another link in the chain of tradition?” Of mediocrity and meaningless lives?
No no no. I think not.
We must learn to give ourselves over. To sometimes just get swept away by the way we feel, to fall utterly and hopelessly within a moment, become the creatures of our landscape, obedient to our soul. Sometimes we need to learn to just be at one with the moment, because in the end, all the riches and all the experiences of the world will not mean a thing, if we eternally fail to invest within each second, all our heart and soul. -
